Only a short time ago Lisa Blackwelder was sitting in a Weight Watchers class when she overheard two women talking about their favorite hobby.  Those two women were our own Marilyn and Cathy, and the hobby they were discussing was, of course, Adelines.  It only took Lisa one rehearsal to adopt the hobby as one of her favorites as well.

She’s been a full-fledged Adeline for an entire TWO WEEKS! and has become one of our most enthusiastic members.  She was so excited about her new hobby that she quickly dragged her sister into it, the two adding a vitality that is so necessary to any performing group.

Lisa comes to us with a wealth of experience and training.  She had been an alto in her high school chorus and earned a perfect score in All State Chorus her senior year.  She played piano throughout high school and took voice training her senior year.  Her high school choral director so inspired her that she wanted to become a chorus director herself (another Stacy!).  Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for her and she was not able to follow her dream.

Lisa happened to visit the Sweet Adeline chorus in Charleston but did not join.  She commented that “they just weren’t as friendly as Harmony River!”  She’s sorry she didn’t join then, but she’s glad she found Adelines again…

AND SO ARE WE!

Especially because she’s a baritone!  She’s loves singing bari; she considers them a rare breed.  And who could argue with her?  She loves it because of the harmonizing:  “the way your note blends in with the others, enhancing them is such an exciting thing to experience.”  Her favorite song that we do is “Bandstand”.  She comments, “There’s so much feeling in that song!”

Lisa works in a hospital’s information services department, where she supports PC desktops, installs/supports most of the hospital’s software, and does some aspects of the network.  When asked what she does for fun she replied, “I cook!  That’s my enjoyment…cooking for people who love to eat!  My family and friends accommodate me there.  When I’m not cooking, I’m spending time with my Honey (she’s a newlywed!)…either fishing in our stocked pond, driving to the mountains or beach (depending on the season), walking in the woods, or sitting on our back porch, enjoying nature.  Have you ever sat and had a hummingbird buzz suspended right in front of your nose???  AWESOME!  I also Jazzercise four times  a week, schedule permitting, and try to jog three miles, three times a week.  I’ve recently made my WW goal, and have lost 75lbs!  I know to keep me healthy, exercise and WW will have to have important roles in my life.  Now, Sweet Adelines will round that out!!

Lisa was asked to tell her favorite thing about Sweet Adelines and she responded, “The sense of belonging.  From the first visit I made, everyone there made me feel as if I were already a part of IT.”
